Latest NewsSunday September 9, 2018LFA Sunday Trophy success for Acregate LaneWalton v Acregate Lane LC - LFA Sunday Trophy Today saw the first round games in the LFA Sunday Trophy and true to form we had games postponed due to unfit pitches, which means that those games now take priority and will be played next Sunday (weather permitting). Acregate Lane LC travelled to Bamber Bridge to meet Walton from division 1 in what was the eye catching game involving our clubs and it certainly lived up to form. The opening exchanges were fairly even until the 15th minute when Paul Turner fired Acregate into the lead. However, this was snuffed out six minutes later when Matt Alty banged in the equaliser. Acregate’s lead was restored by Lee Worden before Owen Thompson scored the goal of the game following excellent work by 17 year-old Jack Anderton and Anderton was on hand to claim Acregate’s fourth. Walton, run by Tom Rowland, Andy Taylor and Zac Heath have made progress through the divisions year on year and that is not surprising when you see their efforts and team spirit. Acregate Lane have long been a cornerstone in this league, always there or thereabouts without ever taking one of the prizes …. but this season could well be the one. Shaun Cromie and Gary Duboulay have got some precocious youngsters in Jack Anderton, Paul Turner and one or two others and they, with some of their experienced players could make all the difference this season, we will wait and see. Bamber Bridge United (prem) beat D Havilland 6-2, Sir Tom Finney (div 2) won 5-4 at Cherry Tree CC, Earnshaw Bridge (div 1) were well beaten at Crown Paints who perennially do well in this competition. Fulwood Park Rangers (div 2) beat Tara 8-2, Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs (prem) won 3-0 at Prestley, Hunters & Ingol Rangers (prem) had a comfortable win at Rufford Park Rangers, Ashton on Ribble (prem) lost 3-0 at Top Club and Tanterton (prem) won 8-1 at Vernon Sports. Arkwrights remain top of division 1 after beating Whittle Rangers 4-3, Gregson Lane Wanderers beat Walton Athletic 7-4 and Warton beat Worden Rangers 2-1. Leyland Orient who won 5-0 at Kingsfold are up to second place in division 2, Penwortham Town won 6-0 at Bamber Bridge Town and Blackpool Town got their first points after beating Fishwick Rangers 8-2. Leaders Lostock Hall are flying in division 3 with their fourth straight win 4-0 at home to Tarleton Corinthians, Park United beat Ribbleton Wanderers 4-1, Ribble beat Midgery Court 9-0 and Tarleton White made it three wins on the trot by beating BAE Warton 4-2. Today was the opening league games in the youth section where Padiham won 4-1 at Bolton County in youth red, Fulwood Amateurs won 6-1 at Coppull United and Winstanley Warriors Reds beat Euxton Villa 8-0. In youth white, Chipping won 5-2 at Fleetwood Gym, Garstang beat Winstanley Warriors 8-0, Mellor won 5-2 at Layton Lions, AFC Fylde Colts won 3-0 at Poulton and Cadley opened their account with a 2-1 win at Southport. Fulwood Amateurs Blues beat Lostock St Gerards 3-0 at Lightfoot Green in youth blue, BAE Warton beat AC Preston, Astley & Buckshaw won 2-1 at Ribble Wanderers, Tarleton Corinthians beat Gregson Lane 5-2 and Ribbleton and Penwortham St Teresas settled for a 2-2 draw.
