Tanterton hit for 6 by Crown Paints
Tanterton v Crown Paints - LFA Sunday Trophy
Tanterton expected a tough encounter when they hosted Crown Paints from the Blackburn Sunday League in the LFA Sunday Trophy and they were comprehensively beaten 6-1 by the team who lost to Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs in last season’s final.
The Tanterton back room staff had worked hard to make the pitch playable and they were rewarded when referee Mark Moore gave the match the go-ahead. However, before the Tanny supporters had finished their bacon butties they found their favourites a goal down after just 3 minutes thanks to a penalty converted by Ryan Steele.
Not good and one got the feeling that this was going to be a long morning as the Darwen lads laid siege to the Tanterton penalty area … and the game wasn’t five minutes old. But hold on, up pops the old head John Stead to level matters on 6 minutes so maybe things weren’t as bad as they looked. Unfortunately, they were as Crown Paints promptly retook the lead two minutes later from a deflected own goal and if it hadn’t been for the heroics of Damien Ellison in the Tanterton goal they would have been out of sight by half time. As it was Jamie Edwards scored for Crown on 43 minutes to give them a 3-1 interval lad.
Second half strikes from Anthony Lynch on 67 minutes and two more from Ryan Steele on 72 & 76 minutes to complete his hat trick gave a well-deserved 6-1 victory to the Crown side managed by Halifax Town player Dave Lynch and they will have a big say in the destination of this year’s Sunday Trophy. And what of Tanterton, well they can play better than this and they have done on many occasions but not today when they were no match for the fast, efficient and well organised Crown side.
The holders Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs travelled to Prestley (Manchester) and won 3-0 thanks to goals from Kevin Edgar (2) and Daniel Bowden and Ingol Rangers beat Craven Heifer (Blackburn) 7-1 via Lee Ashcroft (3) Ryan McKenna (2), Jonty McDonald and Zac Wilkes. However, Bamber Bridge United lost 7-1 to Broomheads Estate Agency, Acregate Lane were beaten 2-1 by The Wellington and a Dom Case hat trick could not prevent Ashton on Ribble going down 4-3 at Bloomfield Brewhouse.. The other LFA games were either postponed or the scores were not in at the time of going on-line.
Ashton Villa beat Springfields 4-3 in the only premier division game played whilst in division 1 the big game between leaders Tulketh United and second placed Bolton Lads & Girls Club ended in a 2-1 win for Tulketh who agreed to switch the game to Bolton after their pitch at Mill Lane had been called off. Jay Ralphson score for Bolton with Aamir Toorawa and Arron Porter earning the points for Tulketh. Vernon Sports find themselves in second place in division 2 following their 3-1 win at Walton and Sir Tom Finney beat second placed Waverley Park to extend their lead in division 3 to five points.
Youth division Red leaders Bolton County were held 2-2 at Burscough Dynamo, Padiham won 4-3 at Southport and Winstanley Warriors beat Lostock St Gerards 2-0. BAE Warton beat Eccleston & Heskin 6-2 to lead Youth Division White with Winstanley Warriors Reds who won 5-2 at Garstang, Foxhall won 3-1 at Broughton Amateurs, Fleetwood Town Rangers beat Ribbleton 9-1 and Wyre Villa won 1-0 at Poulton.
